Body Contouring for Trouble Spots
Most patients, both male and female, have at least one area on their body that they would like to change. Whether it is a trouble spot that remains following weight loss or pregnancy, or just some extra cellulite and fat that has seemingly appeared out of nowhere, body contouring is a great option for many patients. It removes excess skin and fat and improves your body’s overall shape and appearance*.
What does body contouring entail?
There are many different types of body contouring. Some are types of surgical procedures, such as face lifts, tummy tucks, breast lifts, lower body lifts, and arm lifts. These procedures involve making small incisions to pull and adjust the position of skin and fat. Liposuction is also a type of body contouring.
One of the most desired and a state-of-the-art option for body contouring is done with a laser. Laser body contouring is a non-invasive alternative to body contouring procedures and reduces fat and cellulite*. It is able to target trouble spots directly*. With a laser, there is no downtime involved, unlike surgical procedures. It is also safe for all skin types and many laser devices are approved for use by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Patients see results in a few weeks*. Laser body contouring works by delivering radiofrequency pulses to heat tissue. The procedures last an hour or less, and sometimes more than one is needed.
Is body contouring right for me?
Body contouring is best for areas that are not responding for weight loss and dieting, but these procedures are not recommended as a diet or weight loss alternative. They are likely not a good option if you are considerably overweight—for example, laser body contouring is recommended for patients with a BMI (body mass index) of less than 30.
Each patient has different needs when it comes to expense, body type, and downtime. Your doctor can help you decide on the best option. Keep in mind that body contouring procedures can only do so much if you are not going to maintain a healthy lifestyle. They are not a quick fix, but rather a boost in the right direction.
